Getting Your Child Started

  1. Create an Account

Visit the app and help your child sign up with an email address. This saves their progress so they can continue learning on any device.

  2. Set Up the Device

Make sure sound is enabled and consider using headphones for better focus. Test the audio by clicking any speaker button.

  3. Start in Letters Land

New learners should begin with the first world to build a strong foundation in letter sounds.

  4. Establish a Routine

10-15 minutes of daily practice is more effective than longer, infrequent sessions.

Linking to Your Child's Account

As a parent, you can link to your child's account to monitor their learning progress. Here's how it works:

Privacy First: You can only view progress for children who generate a link code and approve your request. This ensures children control who sees their data.

Step-by-Step Linking Process

  1. Create a Parent Account

Register at the app and select "Parent" as your role during sign-up.

  2. Your Child Generates a Link Code

Your child goes to Settings → Parent Link and clicks "Generate Link Code". They'll receive an 8-character code like ABCD1234.

  3. Your Child Shares the Code

They tell you the code (verbally, text message, etc.). The code expires in 24 hours.

  4. Enter the Code

In your Parent Dashboard, click "Link Child" and enter the code. A link request will be created.

  5. Your Child Approves the Request

Your child will see a pending request in their Settings. Once they approve it, you're linked!

  6. View Progress

You can now view your child's XP, level, streak, completed lessons, and achievements from your Parent Dashboard.

What You Can See

Once linked, your Parent Dashboard shows:

  • XP and Level - Overall learning progress
  • Current Streak - Days of consecutive practice
  • Completed Lessons - Which lessons they've finished
  • Phoneme Mastery - Which sounds they've learned
  • Recent Activity - When they last practiced
  • Achievements - Badges and milestones unlocked
Note: You can only see progress for your own linked children. Each child must approve the link from their account.

How the App Works

The 4-Phase Learning Model

Every lesson follows a proven structure that builds skills progressively:

1

Listen

Your child hears correct pronunciation and sees how to form sounds with mouth animations

2

Practice

They try making the sounds themselves with feedback to guide improvement

3

Play

Fun games reinforce learning and make practice enjoyable

4

Assess

A short quiz tests understanding and awards stars (1-3) based on performance

The 5 Learning Worlds

Your child will progress through 5 themed worlds, each building on the previous one:

1

Letters Land

Individual letter sounds - the building blocks of reading (Ages 9-10)

2

Word City

Blending sounds into simple words like "cat" and "dog" (Ages 10-11)

3

Sentence Street

Reading and understanding simple sentences (Ages 11-12)

4

Paragraph Park

Connected text reading with expression (Ages 12-13)

5

Story Kingdom

Fluent reading of longer passages (Ages 13-15)

Understanding Your Child's Progress

What the Numbers Mean

Metric What It Shows
XP (Experience Points) Overall activity and achievement - higher is better
Level Overall progression - levels up as XP increases
Stars (1-3) Performance on each lesson - 3 stars = 90-100% correct
Streak Consecutive days of practice - encourages daily habits
World Progress Percentage of lessons completed in each world

Star Ratings Explained

  • 3 Stars (90-100%) - Excellent understanding, ready to move forward
  • 2 Stars (70-89%) - Good understanding, may benefit from review
  • 1 Star (50-69%) - Needs more practice on this content
Tip: Encourage your child to retry lessons to earn more stars - this reinforces learning without pressure.

How You Can Help

Daily Support

🕑 Set a Schedule

Pick a consistent time each day for practice - after school, before dinner, or as part of homework time.

🎧 Provide Headphones

Good audio quality helps your child hear sounds clearly and focus without distractions.

👥 Learn Together

Occasionally sit with your child and ask them to teach you the sounds they've learned.

🎉 Celebrate Success

Acknowledge achievements, streaks, and milestones to keep motivation high.

Extending Learning Beyond the App

  • Point out sounds - When reading books together, highlight sounds your child has learned
  • Play sound games - "I spy something that starts with the /k/ sound"
  • Practice writing - Ask your child to write words using the sounds they know
  • Read aloud - Have your child read signs, menus, or labels when out and about
  • Make it fun - Turn practice into games and avoid making it feel like a chore

Screen Time Guidelines

We recommend 10-20 minutes of Phonics AI practice per day. Here's why:

  • Consistent short sessions are more effective than long infrequent ones
  • Daily quests are designed to be completed in about 10-15 minutes
  • Streak rewards encourage regular practice without excessive screen time
  • Quality over quantity - focused practice beats extended sessions
Balance is key: Phonics AI should supplement reading physical books and real-world practice, not replace them.
